About the material density calculator

Calculate density from a measured mass and volume (ρ = m / V), or pick a common material and compute the mass of a given volume from its typical density.

How it works

Mass and volume are converted to kilograms and cubic meters before dividing (or multiplying), so any supported unit combination — grams and cubic centimeters, pounds and gallons, and so on — produces a consistent result.

About the material list

Densities for steel, aluminum, water, concrete, wood, and other common materials are typical published values at room temperature. Real materials vary by alloy, grade, porosity, moisture content, and temperature — treat these as estimates.

Limitations

This calculator assumes a solid, uniform, non-porous material. Composite materials, coatings, and hollow or lattice geometries are not modeled — verify with a material data sheet for engineering-critical work.

Privacy first

All calculations run locally in your browser. Nothing you type is sent to a Dockzio server.

FAQ

Quick answers to common questions.

"Calculate density" divides a mass you measured by a volume you measured. "Calculate mass" instead uses a selected common material's typical density to estimate the mass of a given volume.
