Each US grade has a basis sheet. Basis weight converts to grams per square meter, then back into every other grade so you can compare 20 lb Bond, 50 lb Text, and 75 gsm side by side.
Results always show approximate GSM. Example: 100 lb Cover ≈ 270 gsm, 80 lb Text ≈ 118 gsm, 20 lb Bond ≈ 75 gsm.
These are industry-standard equivalents, not a substitute for a mill caliper or brand sheet. Coated finishes and caliper can diverge from basis-weight math.

Practical guidance
Basis weight is tied to a grade-specific parent sheet, so two stocks with the same pound value may have very different mass per area. This converter normalizes those systems through GSM.
Use it when a quote, mill sheet, customer specification, or overseas supplier expresses stock in a different basis system. It is especially useful when comparing Bond, Text, Cover, Index, Bristol, or Tag grades before requesting samples.
Entering 80 lb Text produces about 118 gsm. That does not mean 80 lb Cover is equivalent: 80 lb Cover is about 216 gsm because Cover uses a different basis-sheet area. The grade selector is therefore part of the input, not a label added afterward.
The tool converts pounds per 500 basis sheets into grams per square meter using the selected grade’s standard basis dimensions, then converts that GSM value into the other grade systems. Displayed equivalents are rounded for practical comparison.
Treat the result as a mass-per-area equivalent, not a promise of caliper, stiffness, opacity, grain direction, coating, or runnability. Confirm the exact mill specification and test the intended press and finishing path when those properties matter.
