About Protect PDF

Add real AES-256 password protection to a PDF in your browser. Set a user password to open the file, an optional owner password, and permission flags for printing, copying, and editing.

How it works

Dockzio encrypts your PDF with the PDF 2.0 security handler (AES-256, revision 6) using the Web Crypto API. Nothing is uploaded.

Passwords

The user password is required to open the document. The owner password (optional) can change permissions; if omitted, it matches the user password.

Permissions

Printing, copying, and editing flags are honored by most readers. They are advisory — use a strong user password when confidentiality matters.

Privacy first

Encryption runs entirely on your device. Your PDF and passwords never leave the browser.

FAQ

Quick answers to common questions.

Upload an unprotected PDF, set a user password (and optional owner password), choose print/copy/edit permissions, then protect. Dockzio encrypts the file with AES-256 entirely in your browser and downloads the result.
